Note to Self: Haircuts may be Hazardous

I went for a haircut last Saturday. If it had been my choice I wouldn't have gone until maybe next month, but my sister is here and, well, I simply can't stand nagging. My sister is a mistress of the art of nagging: ever time she looked at me I got the feeling that my hair was hanging halfway down my ankles and looked like a haystack. (I've never seen a haystack, but I assume it's messy.) And, of course, she marshalled the rest of the family against me, so every time I went online to IM, I got messages from my mom and my sisters and brothers telling me to cut my hair. And if that weren't enough they also sent emails that pretty much boiled down to "Go ye unto all the hairdressers of the world and get thy hair shortened!" And to cut a miserable story short--pardon the pun--I went to the hairdresser's last Saturday for a haircut. I've said before that when I'm sitting in a barber's chair, I mysteriously lose whatever skills I ever had at Chin

A Friendly Match is an (Oxy)moronic Thing

Before the main point, a little announcement. If you look down by the links, you'll see a new link called Eliza Chatbot. I set it up so I could keep my chatbot there, but it's not ready yet and so clicking on it will just waste your time. When it's done, you'll know, mostly because I'll be screeching for sheer joy at finally getting HTML to work properly for me. Anyway, I play captain's-ball every Sunday with my church. It's something along the lines of building solidarity and keeping people friendly with each other, and so far I've always found it quite enjoyable except when my brother was around and started spouting rules whenever I so much as got within two feet of the ball. "Foul! You aren't allowed to touch the ball with your left little finger first!", "Hoy! No passing to your own teammate three times in a row!", "It's fair for me to kick you in the shins as long as I'm showing two-thirds of all my teeth!",

A Bit of a Review

As the title hints, this post is mostly going to be about some movies I've seen and my opinions of them. Most of them are musicals, however, so people who haven't got ears might as well skip away. The Phantom of the Opera Watched: Last year in the Big S Rating: Pretty good. I really like this movie, which is a lot considering that the plotline was crazy. This is why I don't like book adaptations: a lot of details get left out and then the movies finished with a heckuva lot of loose ends. Most annoying. In any case, if you only watch the movie, you get the idea that Raoul is an idiot who came along and seduced Christine against the Phantom. Yes, I know he has a name, but the Phantom sounds much more memorable. But the vocals are really impressive, even if the dancing isn't much to look at (except for Masquerade). I especially liked the dialogue songs--the type where there're more than one singers and they're singing at each other. In rhyme, no less, which is more

Holidays and Spillage Village

I'm on holiday now, so, yes, I'm so addicted to the Web that I even specially go to school just to blog. You see how devoted I am to you? The holidays began last week. I only got back to my room last night from staying over at the Gorilla's place (he invited me, my sister, and my brother), and even then it was only because Serene wanted me to give her a bit of help with Biology today. Otherwise I'd probably still be in the Gorilla's place playing with the kids. Allow me to try to get everything in chronological order... OK, so the holidays began last week. My brother, who (you should know) is studying in Singapore, also is having a week of holidays, so it only seemed right that I should forget about promising my grandfather to pop down, instead staying up here to play the gracious host/sightseeing guide to my brother, who will henceforth be called Gobble. So Gobble took the first available bus up to KL from So Hour last Friday and that's when I got my new handph

Coming and Going

The diploma students of the college just got back from a three-week holiday, which I presume was some sort of semester milestone since some of the old people have vanished and new faces have appeared in the hostel. I suppose I should be glad about this, since it'll mean that the hostel canteens will go back to their usual schedule and stop the ridiculous early closing times that they've been having for the last few weeks. At the very least I'll be able to stop having instant noodles for everyday's dinner. It gets quite boring, fast, and the freeze-dried duck gizzards that my mom brought from Shanghai are running out--I've only got one left. Maybe I'll buy a couple eggs or something and boil those. However, one thing I could do without is the clogging up of the computer lab. I forgot all about the sheer numbers of the students here, and when I arrived I was surprised at the lab's not being empty. It was nice having the pick of the fastest computers in the pla
