Dippity Dot Dot

So, writing is a lot tougher than one thinks. My greatest weakness? I get carried away with descriptions and forget the plots; I'm apparently a lot better at setting out contexts than at getting a story going. Anyway, this was spurred on by an MSN conversation with a friend that turned to the Plot Twists page on TVTropes; and one of the Plot Twists was "Bald Killed By Poisoned Wig", which kept us giggly for awhile. Then I decided I'd like to try writing a story with that as a plot point, resulting in: First attempt: Detective Ato Goes to the Ball My name is Thomas Rot, and I am a detective. Private, of course; the force wouldn't have me in it anymore after that incident with the President-Elect of the Smaller Congo (Independent), though of course young Amy Teur still comes around--unofficially, of course--for advice on the finer points of the business. Ask the man who's been around longest, it's always a good idea if you're in a dangerous business like

Characters As ...Something

"You are the light of the world" is one of those phrases that pops up very, very often in Christian circles, and usually it means one is supposed to be obvious and beaming the love of God at people. At this point my brain usually gets a popup of a Care Bear squeaking in a high-pitched voice and then shooting rainbows out of its weirdly-decorated belly at people. And huge amounts of sermons, speeches, etc. have been based around this phrase, probably partly because it sounds deep enough to be interesting in this time when cultivating a cultured appearance also means being vaguely philosophical, and partly because it's really pretty obvious if you give it about five minutes or so of thought--in fact the meaning is obvious, it's merely the application that knocks people about a bit. Personally, I think we're photons. Every single human is a photon, except we're able to self-observe. It's when we're not being observed, by ourselves or by anybody, that we&

Bit By Bleary Bit

I'm really sleepy. I think after I finish typing this, I shall go to sleep--shockingly early, at least if this week is any sort of period over which to determine a trend. I don't think I've slept earlier than 12am on any day this week, including Sunday night; and the worst of it is that I haven't had any particular reason to do so. I just sleep really late, surfing and reading random stuff and so on, and then I wake up the next day and vow that tonight I'll sleep earlier, but then I get back to the room and after dinner there's people to talk to over MSN and so on... And last night I slept at 3am, because I was reading Basilisk in its entirety (34 chapters of manga!). ...so yeah, tonight I sleep early. Earlier than 12am. Tomorrow morning the church worship team is having a retreat. I'm not going. It's not that I have some sort of fundamental opposition to the idea of retreats, and it's not that I don't like the rest of the worship team either. Th
