Dots and Lines

It's a week since the night the bash was organised and I didn't go--well, almost a week at any rate, 6 days isn't really that long a period, as any student can tell. So far I've not asked anybody if they went and if they did, was it nice; but then nobody has volunteered any such information so I've nothing but speculation to work from. School's astoundingly difficult, and getting more so by the day; I take a week to understand the Math, and even then it's not because of the lectures but the tutorials; the Chemistry's not so very complicated, but one does get tired of all the little arrows and hypotheses (admittedly it's very difficult to look at the world nanometer by nanometer); Physics is OK so far, but I've always disliked electricity; and as for Anatomy, humans should come with less than 10 bones--that's my opinion anyway. Lab starts next week so I've nothing to say about it for now. And yet, even so, I like my course. It's strang...

Either Or

My School Club has organised a bash for tonight; as part of the publications/publicity subcommittee, I have two tickets that I had to pay for and which I have been unable to sell (or even give) away, for reasons that should be hugely apparent. I've no idea, really, if I should go or not; either way I'm on the losing end of the thing... I'm planning to make my reasons out here, and being the wonderfully cynical person I am, you can see firsthand the sort of thinking I apply to social invitations. The reasons to go are in bold and the reasons not to are normal text. I should go because I paid a total of SGD 28 for those tickets and I hate wasting money and there's a free drink if I go but the taxi ride there will cost me another SGD 10, or I can take the MRT and a bus and a walk, which are cheaper, but then get a 30-minute walk in return. Besides, the cost of the free drink will at best (and with vast exaggeration) be about SGD 14, which only partially offsets the cost o...

On One's Loose Grasp of Sand

So, it's the last day of school for the week. Friday, which last semester was a perfectly nice empty day, has become a quite packed day this time 'round. Well, not today: the tutorials only begin next week, so my classes today only actually start at 2.30pm... which begs the question of why I'm typing this at 10.11am, which is easily answered by the fact that my tutorials (if they were being held) should begin in another 19 minutes. Of course, it's now obvious that I didn't check the timetable properly before setting my alarm clock last night and now I'm blurry and wishing I could go back to sleep for the next 3 hours: but it's too late and my roommate has flooded the room with the morning light. Yes, I know, it hardly counts as morning since it's almost noon. To heck with that: anytime before lunch is morning and "just-woke-up" time with me. I wonder where the past week went, along with all my energy: I've caught myself stumbling around bet...

Photoshoppy

Image
Yes, I know. Ungrammatical title. But this won't be a wordy post: I've just finished Photoshopping the photo that Clay Sister took, and I'm putting it up here. Yes, I should be studying. the couple in lurrrve. There's more than one error in this picture, but they've both totally overlooked it. Why? Because they were too busy exclaiming how cute the other was. myself. Behold the Quincy pentacle pendant! And don't ask about the pose.

Semester Beginning

It's the first day of the semester, and I'm already plumb tuckered out--loads of new information to process and somehow fit into what I already understand, not that that happens to be very much. I still don't know what it is about being in the hostel that always fatigues me so: perhaps it's the increased time spent at the computer, perhaps it's just the fact that I'm on school. But it's a fact that I suddenly find my favourite places being in front of my laptop or in my bed. And one of the most intensely disliked times in my day being when I wake up. I suppose it's a rotten start. Perhaps I should be more full of pep and zest and be raring to tear through my notes and tutorials, but the fact is I'm simply horribly tired for some reason. In any case I suppose I'll have to start sleeping earlier--maybe, say, before 12am. And then I'll have to wake up. Nobody will ever catch me singing Good Morning Baltimore before I've had my coffee though...

Getting High on Soundwaves

It's a whole new year now. Whee. Pop the crackers and set off the fireworks, it's gonna be a lovely new time for all and sundry, or at least it would be if the world was ideal... which it obviously isn't, just yet. At any rate it's still a New Year and I suppose there's people all over the place drawing up lists and lists of resolutions to abandon after 2 weeks, but I guess they did at least try. Tardy, yes, I know. The new year's been here for all of 12 hours and I've only just posted, but in my defense I was asleep for the past 9 hours or so and the 3 hours before that were spent on a couple forums and chatting on the phone (it was an incoming call, so it was free for me) until the call was mysteriously interrupted and I went to sleep. And besides, I'd only just gotten back from an outing with Brain Rink and Clay Sister. Clay Sister has been visiting for the past two or three days; in fact he arrived on the 28th, but I only met him on the 30th since I ...
